The Dodai Gallery is a large gallery operated as a place where a wide range of people, not just specific art fans, can enjoy contemporary art. It is located at the Miyukicho corner of Sanjo-dori, which can be said to be the center of Kyoto's culture and art scene , and modern architecture is dotted around the area. The 1928 Building, where the gallery is located , is also a historical building designated as a registered tangible cultural property by Kyoto City . On the basement floor, there is INDÉPENDANTS, which is operated as a separate department . Artists have renovated the space, which was almost a ruin , and turned it into a modern community space with an underground atmosphere. In addition to dining and bar use, we also host various art events. —With contemporaneity as the keyword, we question the state of society and way of life in a space called a “gallery” that is never completed, together with artists living in the same era.— The Contemporary Gallery hopes to be a source of creativity that opens up a new era . |
