CONCEPT _
YAKUSHIMA PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL co-founded by Japan and France (YPF)'s mission is "Idea, Create, Share". We interpret human communication from the context of art, conduct exchanges from diverse perspectives using contemporary methods, and create opportunities to see others and society relatively. In addition, by conducting cultural exchange using photography as a medium from the perspective and context of art, we will promote the creation of a system that circulates new values on the island of diversity "Yakushima".
As one of them, we will hold a photo festival that will focus on all the local resources of the island, create new discoveries and creations, and connect more deeply with Yakushima. The artists will pick up fragments of the island that have been overlooked so far, from a variety of perspectives, and create new photographic expressions that will be gathered at the photo festival and shared domestically and internationally through a variety of forms. As Josef Beuys said, “Art is the only possibility for evolution, the only possibility for changing the possibilities of the world,” we can come into contact with various phenomena inside and outside the island through the common language of images. By doing so, the ripples of exchange spread and contribute to the construction of a better society. We will create a place where people can rediscover new perspectives and rediscover the joy of interacting, while sometimes confronting different values.
A place where diverse people connect. It is an attempt to create exchanges like water ripples spreading, and to solve the stagnation of circulation.
About the YPF selection exhibition in KYOTOGRAPHIE 2022
The theme this time is "CYCLE".
This exhibition, which is composed of works created by Japanese and French artists who are active both in Japan and overseas, with Yakushima as its stage, expresses the island of diversity, Yakushima, from multiple perspectives in one space. allows you to share The cycle of life, the cycle in the natural world, and the universally visible existence are repeated. Yakushima is a place where you can intuitively feel this circulation, and please enjoy the works that sensitively respond to them and express them.
Gaining a new perspective leads to richer creativity and can be a great source of food for us in our daily lives. This is because you will be freed from the fixed ego, and at the same time you will notice the existence of numerous possibilities at the same time as you notice new charms. Like this exhibition at Kyotographie 2022, YPF has set up projects for exhibition activities in Japan and overseas, and in addition to activities as a "moving gallery", "International Photo Festival in Yakushima", "Artist in Residence", " Yakushima Found Photo Archives Project” and “Portfolio Reviews and Awards by Photography Experts” are held. At first, a faint sound gradually develops into a sound that fills the space. Just like Matsuo Basho's "Old Pond and the Sound of Frogs Jumping into the Water," people resonate with each other, and people with the environment experience the joy of meeting each other. I would appreciate it if you could play a part in the amplification of. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Kyotographie for giving me such a wonderful opportunity.
